That was definitely on the spot...its been almost 4 years since i lost my husband and everytime i think i am going forward i go every which way but forward...its very exhausting...thank you...

- About Me:
- I am an ordained Priest in The Anglican Church. In addition to my ministerial and local Church duties, I have served in the field of Hospice for over 8 years as a Director of Chaplains and Bereavement Counselor. I am have found much, and honestly most, of my ministerial fulfillment working with patients and families in Hospice. I currently reside in Alabama.
It has been my privilege to conduct numerous Continuing Education Classes in the areas of death and dying from a spiritual standpoint, the reality of Grief, and various Grief and The Holiday seminars.

- My dear mother, Dorothy Vincent passed away on October 21, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
My father, John Rudy Vincent, passed away on July 1, 2001 after a lengthy battle with heart disease.
Both of my parents died while on Hospice. It was the death of my father that inspired me to begin my ministry in Hospice and the passing of my mother was a continuation of the same....

Defining Grief....
Grief is like a cut...!!! When the cut is fresh you cover or bandage it because it hurts. You do everything in your power to protect the wound from getting hurt again. You really do not want to talk about the cut, YOU JUST WANT TO COVER IT. But slowly and surely, AS THE CUT HEALS, you can touch it, and as it continues to heal you can begin to talk about how the cut occurred in the first place. Many times when the death of someone we love or care deeply for occurs we cannot or do not wish to believe it has really happened. We can feel like we have experienced a bad dream. I read a lot on your page and I feel so much at peace. I haven't really lost my mom yet - physically - but lost her a year ago to altzheimers. My vibrant, forever on the go mother is just a shell of the person she once was and it's hard. I can't help but wonder if this is gods way of getting us ready for the inevitable? But regardless, you can never be ready.

I am deeply touched by who you are in this community. I appreciate the clarity you bring to the process of healing from grief. I find myself quiet in this community but not from shyness... I feel as though I am completing my past in "fits and starts" - sometimes a memory will let me feel sad, and then I recall the joy the same memory also brings me. There is not enough time from a moment of grief to a moment of joy to sit and type.
I want to remember the name of the book I mentioned to you. There are some books I read in my teen years whose titles I do not now recall and this book was one. Another was a strange piece of fiction about reincarnation that gave me some nightmares. A third was an odd story about how a chef became a king of a little village. I don't recall the titles of any of these. Books I read in my youth and deeply appreciate include the Tales of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, and 6XH by Robert Heinlein.
