Hi Rod, this is Melinda from the NHL group. I remember seeing your page here not too long after Christie was diagnosed and now here I am, in the same boat, so to speak. This is the hardest thing a parent can ever go through and I am so very sorry that we've both experienced it. Blessings to you and yours...

Actually- We have not even hit that numb area yet with the exception of a hour here or there- - We seem to be wavering between disbelief & the raw pain. So sorry about Chris - I always taught our kids life is what you make of it- So don't say life is not fair- But- WOW- Now- I have to say it. " Life is NOT fair" Our boys deserved to grow up, fall in Love & know the joy of parenthood - as we did.

That wasn't quite how the Mopigeon name started up, Close though. Me (Lauren) and also Kiah made it up. He was making fun of all the "poser bitches" as he called them, with their sissy hawks, and me and Kiah both shot him and odd look, and at the same time called him Mopigeon, it was hilarious. It was just one of those moments you would have had to be there for.

Dear Rodney, Thank you for caring enough to write to me. Our Dads are so special and they are greatly missed when they are no longer with us. I am so sorry for your loss of your son, Chris, which must be so much harder to come to terms with form you and Chris's brothers. I pray God will help you and that you will keep many wonderful memories of him in your heart. In a sense a part of him is always with you and always will be. Even in the midst of sorrow may you find hope and peace. Blessings! Rob

Profile Information

About Me:
I am a husband and father of 3 sons, one of whom passed away in October of 2007. I work as a family therapist and enjoy painting, photography, sports, and geocaching.
Tell a little about the person lost...
Chris was 18 when he was diagnosed with non Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was undergoing treatment while finishing high school and graduated a week before we found out his cancer had returned. He loved life, loved to laugh and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Chris would test a person to see what they were made of, and loved to debate things just to see what people thought. He is greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Chris's nickname was Mopigeon. He had a mohawk that he was very proud of. One day he was at the mall with his friend Lauren making fun of other people's mohawks that he thought were weak. Lauren asked him what was on his head and he said "A Mohawk." She laughed and told him. "At best that's a Mopigeon." It stuck and he was Mopigeon from them on. That's why my memorial tattoo is a pigeon with a Mohawk.

The new year

It's been a long time since I've posted. We have made it through our first year without Chris, and are finding as so many have told us that the second year is even harder than the first. I have a hard time believing that it's been almost 2 years since we found out about the tumor and our lives changed forever. We continue on because to do anything else would dishonor Chris's memory and all that he fought for. We mark the new year now in October not January. Every year that passes is marked for t… Continue

Mopigeon

I wrote this today and thought it was something to share here.

Mopigeon

You always flew your own way
Leading others as you found your path
Showing us all the face of courage
Defining dignity as you faced the beast

No matter the news you held your head high
Even when our hopes and dreams for you died
You showed us love as you prepared to fly
Leaving us behind as you soared to new heights

Everyday we feel the hole in our lives
Left there when you had to fly
We let you go, when we wanted to hol… Continue

Graduation

Last Friday was a year that Chris graduated from High School. On Saturday we went to IHS's graduation. It was hard to watch all those kids go through the ceremony knowing that last year it was Chris. We watched the young men and women, having an idea of what they had overcome to graduate and we were proud of them. I hope that next year we will have our foundation in place and have a scholarship to award to one of the students.
Today Alec graduated. We were so proud of him, watching him walk acro… Continue

Music

Chris was always exposed to music. Cyndi and I have always had music in our home and it's been a very important part of our lives. Like most kids Chris listened to what we listened to when he was young, because he didn't have a lot of choice. Of course as he got older he developed his own tastes in music, and everything mom and dad listened to was old and bad. The songs that I put on the site were songs that Chris liked, or were special to us. The Parting Glass is a old song, that we first heard… Continue

6 months

6 months, half a year. Almost as long as Chris fought that damned disease. Can it be possible that he's been gone this long. I guess it is, but it sure doesn't seem like it has been that long, yet he feels like it's been forever since I've heard him yell "Daddy" when I walked into his hospital room. Forever since I saw his smile when I knew he was up to something. Forever since we argued about why the Oakland Raiders are the evil of professional sports, why the Detroit Red Wings were to blame fo… Continue
