About Me:: I'm a Dietitian and Diabetes Educator for 25 years. I am the resident dietitian at www.IowaAvenue.com and I also created my own grief site www.OnlineGriefSupport.com. Since 2000 I have been the Dietitian for a hospice in Florida. Before working for hospice, I had hospice visit my home for years caring for my grandfather.

Tell a little about the person lost...: The person I lost is my brother James. It was very traumatic for me because I never met him. I was raised by my maternal grandparents and he was raised by my paternal grandparents. We did not know each other existed. He died Aug 2001, I found out about him on Thanksgiving Day 2001 and was told about his death that same day. Talk about a tragedy. What makes things even worse is we were so much alike. Remember that Patty Duke Show . . . we walk alike, we talk alike, . . . well you get the picture. I'll be posting more.

Letter I received One Year ago today about My Brother James whom I never met.

Subject: Brother James Hi. My name's Louie McNeal. I grew up in Westwood, and knew James since I was a small child. He was pretty much a fixture in that town at the time. We shared a lot of mutual friends, and on more than a few occasions, we hung around and jammed a bit. He was an enthusiastic bass-player, and total Beatles-freak, as well as a Kiss freak. I've taken something out of my memory box to give to you as a gift.

It's a little circular locket, contained within a glazed, gilt metal setting, with a suspension ring.

The glass on the front of the locket is decorated with a border of verre églomisé. This covers a miniature painting depicting a figure representing 'Hope'; a departing warship is shown in the background.

There is an empty compartment at the back of the locket, which is lined with pink satin.

I've placed a picture of your brother within it for you.

When ever you take it out of your memory box and look at it I want you to know that you are loved beyond measure, and that my prayers are for you to have Hope, comfort and peace.

Know that you truly are not alone!

My father passed away just 40 days before my son. It was a very hard time! I miss my brother so much. Today is my dad's birthday. He would have been 97.
